Can Main Streets Bounce Back?

Issue #55 of Spacing, we continue our deep dive into the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has had on Toronto. The city’s main streets — the backbone of the local business economy — have been decimated by two lockdowns. Commercial shopping districts are often the heart of a neighbourhood, so it’s imperative that we understand whether it’s possible for these areas to bounce back once the pandemic is under control. Our contributors explore a variety of topics from rent control to strip malls to making CafeTO a permanent street fixture.

Other articles include the history of the fictitious but very real Bloordale Beach, the need for the return of co-op housing, and the need to fully implement the Regent Park Social Development Plan.
