Each Tuesday, Spacing Montreal will share with you some posts from our sister blog, Spacing Toronto. We hope it will enable constructive dialogue on the urban issues faced by both cities, though we’ll settle for some witty jibes against la Ville reine in the comments.

Spacing Magazine Hut: Sapcing Magazine has acquired the naming rights to the the Leslie Spit Quonset Hut. Spacing intends to convert the metal structure into a “Public Space Interpretation Centre” that will house both permanent and rotating exhibitions.

Ballenford Books closes: Toronto’s great -and only- architecture bookstore Ballenford announced that it will be closing after 29 years in business. People who have visited the bookstore will know how incredibly sad it is to see this institution go. Posted here is the letter from the owner asking for support and ideas on how to keep this or any future Toronto architecture bookstore alive.

TTC strike looming: A number of posts were written on the looming transit strike which might be pushed back. A poll asks whether the TTC should be allowed to strike at all. Meanwhile the City starts planning for the upcoming chaos…

Bathurst Bridge to be rebuilt: The City is planning to rebuild the Bathurst bridge (over the railway corridor and the area close to Fort York). The historical truss structure will be preserved while the north end of the bridge will undergo redesign. Shawn Micallef writes on why this is a meaningful and possibly insightful project for the city.

  1. Oooh! Can we get a Spacing hut in Montreal?

  2. Yes Montreal can too. Find us a hut to slap our logo on! Note, our hut article was posted on April 1.

Though someone did suggest we buy the naming rights to one of those igloos that are built on Mt. Royal.
