All the street's a stage

Avenue Mont-Royal is becoming a pedestrian street this weekend for Nuit blanche sur tableau noir. I was struck this evening by how many kids were enjoying the street in their own ways: prancing on the ledge of the flung-open restaurant windows; leaning over to pet the dog tied up outside a shop; dancing with their parents on the pavement to the tunes that overflowed terraces; swinging around sign-posts while adults stopped to browse a boutique; dropping change in buskers’ cases and practicing their Suzuki violin songs in the street.

Do you remember a time when the whole city felt a few sizes to big, and everything became either a jungle gym or a stage to find your spotlight on?
