The Petitcodiac River, also known as the chocolate river for its brown-coloured water, is a distinctive feature of Moncton, New Brunswick. Until recently, the river was more muddy banks than water, sealed off by a causeway which blocked the flow of the river.  However, with the opening of the causeway, the river has been restored to its former glory.

The tidal bores, which characterize the river, have also become a distinct feature, making the river a notable spot for surfing, gaining recognition worldwide.
