The TEDxToronto affiliate in Toronto has grown to be one of the bigger events associated with the TED conference in California. Spacing’s senior editor Shawn Micallef gave a seven minute talk on how we think about our cities at the Sony Centre this past month. Take a look.

Wow, this is… ridiculous. Having been to Toronto suburbs and downtown, the Toronto downtown has way more variety and non-chain stores than the suburbs. Ottawa is also clearly less big-boxy downtown.
I really don’t understand why he would possibly think it is otherwise.
Anecdotes are not data. One strip mall shows nothing.
