Getting Oriented

A helpful stencil artist is making it easier for you to get your bearings after leaving the subway — someone has been spray painting directional arrows on the sidewalk just outside TTC exits. I noticed one today at King Station on my way home from work, and just now at two of the Spadina Station exits.

  1. When they re-did some of the street furnishings on Wellesley Street, they embedded a bronze direction indicator just outside the doors of the subway exit. Yes, it’s brilliant and helpful, though not everyone orients themselves by NSEW.

  2. I aways feel a little off when i loose my NSEW orientation. It’s a fun feeling for a bit, but unsettling.
