Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

  1. Thank god Circa is finally opening up – Peter has it right: New York’s nightlife is dead and Toronto has (for the moment) little enough enforcement to have some fun. Peter Gatien is exactly what that scene needs to bridge the gap between the stereotypical suburbanite clubber image (which is inaccurate – a lot of downtown condo-dwellers moved down there so they would be near the clubs) and high fashion, or perhaps just good old fashioned partying.

Peter may be a businessman, but Circa could be the Drake of the club district: the high-end hotspot that gives back to the community.

I am both glad and surprised the Sun didn’t put a spin on that one.

  2. Am I to understand the Sun article on Holyday correctly? Is it true the result of this escapade is to charge Holyday’s expenses budget an amount to be paid to the city itself? In other words his expense budget is charged but the city is cash neutral? wow, what an interesting political exercise.
