Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

  1. In regards to “Earth Day idea: Make firms pay up to recycle products [ Toronto Star ]” I agree. I went to Tim Horton’s this morning, with my ceramic mug. I asked them to charge me for a medium, and give me a small, so it does not overfill (I had done this an hour ago, and the girl told me she used a small, and a medium would over fill it). The man started to get all cranky that I made it too complicated for him and started asking me if I wanted a Large. (wtf?) I said “No. I want a hot chocolate. I do not want you to use a paper cup.” (He had it in his hand. I pointed at it) He said He is going to use it if I order a drink. I said. No paper cup. He said He would use it (again). I walked out and went to second cup. Tim Hortons has lost my business. Perminatly.

Oh and for reference, it was the Tims on Somcoe and Queen.

  2. A few weeks ago I went to Tim Horton’s with my mug and they filled it fine, but then they tried to give me a paper cup. The person explained that because of the roll up the rim contest, their customers expected the paper cup, even when using a mug. Indeed, a minute or two later, a woman came in with her mug, and happily took an empty paper cup. Weird.
