Spacing is looking for a few good men and women to help us at events. If you’ve wanted to get involved in the magazine, but weren’t sure how, here’s your chance. We’ve got three big events coming up in the upcoming weeks (Queen West Art Crawl, Word on the Street, and the launch of our 25th issue) and we’re looking for people who can help us prepare, set-up, sell magazines, subscriptions, and subway buttons, and inform people about Spacing’s magazine and blogs.

All volunteers will receive a free subscription to the magazine and Spacing t-shirt, and to top it off, we have been working on a brand new, super exciting magnet set, which we will also hook you up with before they go on sale to the public! That’s around $75 bucks worth of swag for a couple hours of work.

Volunteering with Spacing is a great opportunity to mix and mingle with Spacing readers, contributors, editors, and other like-minded urban-enthusiasts. If you’re interested in lending a hand, keep reading for details on each event and send an email to our editor Michael Bulko at mikebulko@spacing.ca (please outline what events you’re interested in and what shifts you’re available for).

What: Queen West Art Crawl
When: Saturday, September 15th, 10am-6pm
Where: Trinity Bellwoods Park

We will be at QWAC on both the Saturday and Sunday afternoons, but we are only short staffed on the Saturday. Let us know if you’re available and interested in lending a hand with either a 10am-2pm, or 2pm-6pm shift. Or if you’re super eager and want to stick around all day, I’ll buy you lunch!

What: Word on the Street
When: Sunday, September 23rd, 10am-7pm
Where: Queen’s Park

This all-day event is far and away our biggest and most important sales and outreach opportunity. As anyone who’s seen us at WOTS before knows, our booth is very popular. We’d love to have a big, enthusiastic crew on hand to maximize the fun factor (as well as the sales factor, of course).

We’ll be operating a number of shifts throughout the day, 10am-noon, noon-2pm, 2pm-4pm, and 4pm-6pm (bonus points if you can stick around past 6 and help us pack up). If you’re interested, please let us know what shift(s) you’d prefer!

What: Launch of our 25th issue
When: Tuesday, September 25th, 6pm-11pm (Doors at 7)
Where: CSI Annex, 720 Bathurst St, one block south of Bloor

If you’ve been to any of our launch parties before, you should know what to expect: a whole bunch of Spacing readers, editors, and urbanites of all kinds having fun and mingling. We’ll have three different volunteer posts throughout the event: the door, where we charge cover and sell subscriptions; our drink/raffle ticket table, pretty self explainitory; and our merch table, where we sell our buttons, magnets, t-shirts, and back issues. The best part about helping out at our launch parties — drinks are on us!

The ticket and the merch tables will have two shifts, 6:30pm-8:30pm, and 8:30pm-11pm (both will likely wrap up closer to 10:30 as we get near the end). The door will shut down around halfway through the party, so we will only be running one shift there, though we’d like to have an extra person on hand so everyone can have a chance to grab drinks and some extra backup when there’s a rush.
