Each semester, Spacing offers students the opportunity to support Spacing’s writers, editors, and contributors with real-world experience from within the magazine and city-building industries. Job placements usually last for four months and offer flexible schedules to suit your education and employment limitations. Working with Spacing is best suited for highly-motivated and organized people who need a minimum of supervision. All positions are unpaid.

PLEASE NOTE: While Spacing’s HQ is based in Toronto, we can work with students based in other cities including Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, and other large Canadian urban centres.

Editorial assistant:
You will write short articles for the magazine and provide fact-checking and editing support. This is a good position for journalism students or students focused on city-building (architecture, planning, governance, urban studies) looking to add writing to their portfolio.

Web editor assistant:
As Spacing’s national presence grows we have new demands to support our writers in far-off locales. The assistant web editor position supports our editor and city editors with editorial planning, content editing, and writing. Very well suited for those seeking semester-long placements and a need to beef up their editing portfolio.

Photo and/or design assistant:
If you have a passion for cities, photography, and/or design and want your work to be seen by a sizable audience, then we may be a good fit for you.

INFO:
Deadline for this semester: Sunday, January 20th
Deadline for summer placement: Friday, March 15th.
