You’ll love this year’s East Vancouver Garden Tour! It will be easily walkable, and we have lined up some delightful gardens for your touring pleasure! As usual, our home base is Figaro’s Garden Centre (1896 Victoria Drive at 3rd Avenue). The gardens on this year’s tour will be in the neighbourhood just to the west of Commercial Drive, between the Drive and Clark.

On the day of the tour, you start at Figaro’s, check in, pick up your tour map, enjoy coffee, juice, and goodies (by donation), and then head off to the gardens where the team from http://marrazzolandscaping.com/ will be waiting for you.

(Note that the tour is on the same day as Car-Free Commercial Drive. Figaro’s is just east of the Drive on Victoria Drive.)

Get your tickets — only $12 per person — ahead of time either at Figaro’s or at Britannia Community Services Centre. (We recommend that you sign up ahead of time to avoid disappointment. The tour is very popular, and, although we will have a few cash-only tickets available at Figaro’s on the day of the tour, tickets are limited and we have sold out in recent years.)

Drop in to Figaro’s Garden Centre to buy tickets (in person and cash only) or order your tickets for the tour at Britannia Centre’s Info Centre, 1661 Napier, in person or by phone at 604-718-5800. (Note that you will not be able to register for it online this year.)

This year’s tour has expanded the definition of what constitutes a garden, with a tour entitled “Gardening Inside (and Outside) the Box.” Many avid gardeners are living in multi-unit buildings with limited access to soil…or at least the kind of soil one would plant up with a tasteful variety of flowers, herbs, shrubs, and trees. Still they pursue their passion, to the visual enrichment of the community. To honour that passion, this tour in the area just west of Commercial Drive will include not only eleven traditional and modern private-yard gardens (in the box), but also creative boundary gardens around housing complexes, community-built parks and more (outside the box). Enjoy!

Important: Note that most gardens are not wheelchair- or stroller-accessible, children must be 12 years or older or babes in arms, and pets are not allowed. Also, photos are not allowed unless you get the gardeners’ permission.

People who attend the tour will get a one-time 20% discount at Figaro’s starting on the day of the tour and through July 1 (Canada Day).

See you there!
