What False Creek residents feared would be an ugly gravel pit next to their homes has turned into a wildflower meadow, thanks to the creative teamwork by Park Board and City of Vancouver Real Estate Facilities Management (REFM) department staff.

The old railway corridor behind Olympic Station by Cambie Bridge was recently remediated to remove contaminated soil. But, instead of re-seeding using a conventional grass mix, the site was hydro-seeded with a bee-enticing mix of meadow grasses and wildflowers. It’s now bright with red and pink poppies, phacelia and other flowers, with a row of trees to buffer between the Canada Line station parking and the residents.
