It was midnight — where was your candidate?

The addictive potential of last week's Nuit Blanche now leaves me in withdrawal. I polled candidates in wards 18, 19, 20, and 21, in hopes I could live vicariously through their tales of the all-night art party's witching hour.

Everyone who responded vowed to support the event for another year.

Himy Syed, a candidate running in Ward 19 Trinity-Spadina, had the most enthusiastic response by far (editor's disclaimer: Syed contributes to Spacing Photos regularly). At the witching hour, Syed was atop the CN Tower with a photoblogger crew. He posted a video log of his night travels as a voyeur and volunteer, and offered up the following suggestion:

Toronto NEEDs at least TWO such nuits a year.

Call the first one Nuit Rouge, have it just around the time of the spring solstice, March-ish.

Toronto would do well to have something grand to look forward to in the spring during each winter. Let's ditch Seasonal Affective Disorder and the winter blahs with a Nuit Rouge party.

It must remain FREE. Period. In Paris, their Nuit Blanche has zones with a theme. Last year, for example, one of Paris' Nuit Blanche zones was "Brazil," and people knew what to expect in that zone even if they didn't have a program or map at the ready.

...

Imagine a 'caravan' of art zones, like the Caravan of Cultural Pavillions which Toronto is known for, and we'll be building upon the cosmopolitan strength of our city.

And everyone else:

Ward 18, Davenport

Councillor Adam Giambrone was someplace between the car washes, the pool party, and the galleries on Queen Street West.

Ward 19, Trinity-Spadina

Poor Nick Boragina was kept busy working on the event's security detail.

George Sawision was out somewhere "not playing politics."

Ward 20, Trinity-Spadina

Doug Lowry was exhausted from campaigning and conked out in bed.

Desmond Cole was parked at the Cloak and Dagger after cruising the fun in Trinity-Bellwoods.

Chris Ouellette was celebrating a friend's birthday after his Trinity-Bellwoods crawl.

Ward 21, St. Paul's

John Sewell was driving home from a performance of Soulpepper's King Lear.

Councillor Shelley Carroll (Ward 33, Don Valley East) was spotted with her family around Queen and John earlier in the evening.
