Toronto’s DK Photo Group are an “urban exploration” photography collective made up of Russell Brohier, Steve Jacobs, and three Spacing contributors in Sean Galbraith, Laurin Jeffrey, and Mat Merrett. In addition to opening the galleryDK photography gallery, the DKPG traveled to Europe in 2008 to film a documentary television series for Bravo!Canada, produced by Toronto’s Keep It In The Family Productions. The series, photoXplorers, follows the team behind the boarding and fences, around abandoned buildings in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Germany. Each episode features a different type of building; from a steel mill, to a tuberculosis sanitorium, to a castle…. Tonight’s episode features the Sanitorium Bezancon, north of Paris. Once a grand chateau dating back to the late 1800s, the building was expanded as a hospital in the early 20th century, and abandoned in the 1970s, leaving thousands of patient records behind to rot.
The series airs for the next 5 weeks Thursday night at 7:30pm on Bravo.
