WHAT: Screening of Contested Streets and panel discussion
WHEN: South Riverdale Health Centre, 955 Queen St. East at Carlaw
WHERE: Tuesday, September 18th, 7 pm sharp. Doors open at 6:30.

A couple of years ago, I saw the great documentary Contested Streets — which explores pedestrian and cycling initiatives in various cities — followed by a panel discussion at a Car-Free Day event. This year, I’m doing it again, but now I’m on the panel. It’s a movie worth seeing:

The East Toronto Climate Action Group will be celebrating Car-Free Day 2007 with a free screening of the hit documentary Contested Streets, which looks at successful programs in Copenhagen, London and Paris to reduce car use.

A panel discussion will follow the screening. Panelists will include: Ward 32 Councillor Sandra Bussin; City transportation planner Pauline Craig; transit advocate Steve Munro; and pedestrian advocate Dylan Reid.

  1. Will anyone on the panel have the guts/interest to denounce the Front St. Extension? and it’s Metro-era feeble transit plan, the WWLRT. We’re poised to blow about $750,000,000 on less-wise transport plans and we haven’t really looked at all the transit options. This list also includes adding more GO trains instead of moving their railtracks.
I know I’m obsessed somewhat, but if we could save c. $300M, couldn’t that help transit somewhere else? OR could we get two good transit lines on the waterfront, one north of the tracks, and one south of them, maybe even on the Lakeshore to be “roadical”.
And yes it’s a good film, thanks for plugging it.

  2. Where can I buy a copy of the DVD in Canada? Anyone know? I’d like to host a screening at work!
