A place to engage with urban planning practitioners, urban design enthusiasts and people just generally interested in shifting the cultural debate around peninsular Halifax.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With a number of featured events taking place, the conference&#8217;s keynote is also the 11<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Carmichael Lecture featuring <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ted.com\/speakers\/majora_carter.html\">Majora Carter<\/a>,\u00a0a\u00a0MacArthur winning activist and an urban planning visionary who connects the dots between urban renewal and\u00a0environmental\u00a0justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreat cities need public engagement,\u201d said\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/downtownpaul\" target=\"_blank\">Paul MacKinnon<\/a>, Executive Director of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/downtownhalifax.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">DHBC<\/a>. \u201cThis year\u2019s Dalhousie University conference and Carmichael Lecture is about harnessing the great ideas that our citizens have, and moving them from grassroots to the upper echelons of decision-making.
