One of the character-defining elements of the heritage building was indeed the painted sign. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historicplaces.ca\/en\/rep-reg\/place-lieu.aspx?id=7955\" target=\"_blank\">Historic Places<\/a> describes it in detail: &#8220;large Morse\u2019s Teas signs of exposed brick lettering in parged sign bands, located between the fifth and sixth levels on the north and west sides.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Updated:<\/em> For some further background on the building and the alterations that were approved in 2007, please see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.halifax.ca\/boardscom\/hac\/documents\/7.21877HollisStreet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>\u00a0[PDF] Heritage Advisory Committee report from 2007.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/cove17\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12240\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12240\" title=\"morses3\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/network\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/morses3-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/morses3-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/morses3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/morses3-940x705.jpg 940w, https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/morses3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>We&#8217;ll wait on assurances of a\u00a0restoration and\u00a0rejuvenation\u00a0but developer Lou Reznick also mentioned re-branding. How would you feel if it was re-branded to reflect the original name, the Jerusalem Warehouse? Or how about the name of the current tenant in the building, Baton Rouge? Should painted ads and signs reflect the past or the present? Should they be repainted or refreshed occasionally? Or be allowed to naturally flake into memories?<\/p>\n<p>Let us know if this affects your approach to heritage preservation.
