Photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/dianelaundy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Laundy<\/a>&#8216;s new exhibition, <em>fabric<\/em>ations, now on display at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.viewpointgallery.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">ViewPoint Gallery<\/a> on Barrington Street in Halifax, provides urban art enthusiasts with some pause for thought.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At her opening \u00a0on Thursday, Laundy discussed the link between quilting and architecture.\u00a0Although the project stemmed from a natural interest in the geometric form of buildings \u00a0(expressed here with images the artist took in Edmonton and Toronto), Laundy later discovered that quilters had already articulated the link between textiles and architecture. &#8220;I found that many modern quilters use\u00a0architecture as inspiration and architecture in its basic form \u2013 grid\u00a0like structures, the importance of pattern and texture \u2013 has many\u00a0similarities to the design of quilt tops.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dianelaundy.com\/?gallery&amp;albumid=11&amp;photoid=139\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"Skyscraper 50 by Photographer Diane Laundy\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/network\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/LaundySkyscraper1-low-res.jpg\" alt=\"Skyscraper 50 by Photographer Diane Laundy\" width=\"337\" height=\"504\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She describes her inspiration for this show as a fascination with the texture provided by modern architecture when shot up close: &#8220;A city\u2019s skyscrapers are an\u00a0omnipresent part of our urban lives and so rather than dismiss them or\u00a0ignore them, I try to find the beauty in them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To see urban beauty through the eyes of Diane Laundy, you can check out <em>fabric<\/em>ations at ViewPoint Gallery until March 28th.
