Portland, Oregon (pop. 576 000) has been at the forefront for making cycling safer and more convenient in the city. The results speak for themselves: currently 8% of Portlanders are cycling to and from work each day. That number has doubled since 2005.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyclehalifax.ca\/\">Halifax Cycling Coalition<\/a> is please to host a public talk by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portlandonline.com\/TRANSPORTATION\/index.cfm?a=71963&amp;c=37401\">Roger Geller<\/a>, Portland\u2019s Bicycle Coordinator who has been with their Bureau of Transportation since July, 1994 and is currently working on the city&#8217;s bikeway network signing, technical design for bikeways, bicycle parking, and updating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portlandonline.com\/transportation\/index.cfm?c=44597\">Portland\u2019s Bicycle Master Plan<\/a>.\u00a0 He will provide Halifax residents with an overview of how the City of Portland has made such strides and what lessons can be taken from their experiences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>WHEN<\/strong>: October 22nd, at 7pm<br \/>\n<strong>WHERE<\/strong>: Auditorium (HA 19), Planning and Architecture Building, 5410 Spring Garden Road, Halifax<br \/>\n<strong>HOW MUCH<\/strong>: Free<br \/>\n<strong>WEBSITE<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyclehalifax.ca\/calendar.htm\">Halifax Cycling Coalition<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>photo by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portlandonline.com\/\">City of Portland<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cities across North America are implementing new cycling networks at a rapid rate.
