It seems that after long <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecoast.ca\/RealityBites\/archives\/2010\/07\/07\/herring-cove-road-bike-lanes-nixed-by-halifax-council\" target=\"_blank\">struggles<\/a> with council over proper bike infrastructure, someone in this city is taking matters into their own hands. Literally, someone out there has taken a paint brush in hand and created sharrows on <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.ca\/maps?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=garrick%20lane%20halifax&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sa=N&amp;tab=wl\" target=\"_blank\">Maynard St. at Cunard<\/a> and on <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.ca\/maps?hl=en&amp;client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=garrick%20lane%20halifax&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sa=N&amp;tab=wl\">Garrick Lane<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"'urban repair' on Gerrick by Spacing Magazine, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spacing\/5056773645\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4092\/5056773645_fb16c8f92f.jpg\" alt=\"'urban repair' on Gerrick\" width=\"550\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A sharrow (seen above) is a \u00a0simple visual indication that bicyclists are going to be sharing the road. This type of creative public space transformation is part of a movement that goes by the name of \u00a0the\u00a0Urban Repair Squad \u2014 the likes of which have been popping up in cities from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.good.is\/post\/where-s-my-bike-lane-urban-repair-squad-strikes-again\/\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto<\/a> to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thecityfix.com\/urban-repair-squad-makes-over-sao-paulo-streets\/\" target=\"_blank\">S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>. According to their <a href=\"http:\/\/web.net\/~lukmar\/UrbanRepairSquadManual.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">practical manual<\/a>, the Urban Repair Squad aims to ensure polite sharing of the roadway while encouraging citizens to reclaim ownership and stewardship of their public space. So, citizens of Halifax, do you want to take ownership of the sharrows?
