While they ultimately decided against this idea, I was shocked to think that we, as a city and a society, were at such a point.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2576\/4097906615_9828074221_b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Gottingen St. &amp; Young St. \" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2576\/4097906615_9828074221_b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"624\" height=\"416\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">This phone&#39;s proximity to the North End&#39;s upscale Hydrostone Market doesn&#39;t keep vandals away, with graffiti all over the phone&#39;s inner cabin and exterior.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now that cellphones\u00a0permeate our culture, what role does the public\u00a0payphone\u00a0play in 21st century Canada? What does it mean for our city when phone companies begin taking away payphones or leaving them vandalized\u00a0or in an unusable condition?
