HALIFAX<\/span><\/span><\/strong> – Over the past 3 years, the<\/span> Halifax Cycling Coalition (HCC)<\/a> has noticed a significant drop in winter cycling. Despite the fact that seasonal winter weather combined with inefficient cycling infrastructure regularly create barriers for cyclists each winter, this is no “out-of-the-blue” reason why the number of cyclists has shifted to the low gear over the last few years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dalhousie University, care of a graduate student’s research project in the Planning program is interested in truing the residents of Halifax Regional Municipalities (HRM) bicycle wheels, by understanding the barriers facing cyclists in the winter. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What will the results reveal? And, how will the research promote or facilitate increased winter cycling? For starters – participate. By filling out the quick <\/span><\/span>Online Survey<\/span><\/span><\/a> you will not only help cycling in HRM have a stronger voice, but you will help to contribute your vision of cycling in the HRM.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Halifax Cycling Coalition is an organization of concerned citizens dedicated to improving cycling conditions and raising awareness of cycling issues in the Halifax Regional Municipality. The HCC believes that increased bicycle use has the potential to: Reduce traffic congestion; Reduce HRM infrastructure spending; Improve our health; Enhance our urban environment. We want to change the circumstances that discourage bicycle use: inadequate cycling facilities, and lack of education for both cyclists and motorists. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
