Mark your calendars!<\/strong> Spacing Montreal is thrilled to team up with the McCord Museum to launch Spacing Magazine’s first pan-Canadian issue in Montreal, Wednesday July 20th, from 6:30-9pm.<\/p>\n

UPDATE<\/strong>: We will also be launching the first line of 25 Montreal metro pins, representing downtown stations on the orange and green lines! Pick one up to show your neighbourhood colours, or collect’em all.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

What better place to launch a publication that explores the joys and politics, and obstacles of the urban landscape than the Urban Forest,<\/em><\/a> a new public space that extends along Victoria Street between Sherbrooke and President Kennedy, adjacent to the McCord Museum. This summer, the McCord museum has created a seasonal pedestrian zone with stylized trees, a picnic area, terrace, and open-air activities.<\/p>\n

During the launch party, short, colourful, pecha-kucha style presentations will present perspectives on how we shape the city, and how the city shapes us, starting at 6:30.<\/p>\n

– Spacing Montreal contributor Alanah Heffez will present her work on teenagers, public space, and participation, focusing on James Lyng high school and the Woonerf planned near the school<\/a>.<\/p>\n

– Joel Thibert will talk about the experience of Walk the Region<\/a>, a three\u2010day expedition on food across the Montreal metropolitan area that aimed to raise awareness about regional planning issues and plant the seeds for a sense of regional identity.<\/p>\n

– Avenue Huit<\/a> will spark a discussion on food as a way of reading the city, not only as nourishment, but also as an eloquent expression of who we are, how our culture is transforming, and how we project ourselves into the future.<\/p>\n

– Katarina Soukup<\/a> will speak about her documentary on the world’s lost urban waterways and an iphone app that allows users to discover and explore Montreal’s lost rivers through geo-localized storytelling.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: After the presentations, D\u00e9panneur Le Pickup will be serving up their delectable version of street food on rue Victoria.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to our partners at McCord museum, it’s shaping up to be a great evening. Please join us for drinks & discussion, and to kick back and enjoy this new public space. There will also be free admission to the McCord museum collection until 9pm.<\/p>\n
