4<\/span>An Old Sound in Harlem Draws New Neighbors\u2019 Ire<\/a>: An interesting story from the New York Times<\/em> about how the decades-old tradition of Saturday drumming in Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem \u2014 a tradition which has contributed to the revitalization and increased safety of the area \u2014 has drawn numerous (and some nakedly racist) complaints from new residents in condominiums across from the park, the majority of whom have migrated north from Manhattan. (The Times<\/em> neglects to note that apparently the dispute has been solved by relocating the drummers once again.)<\/p>\n

I thought it was an interesting story to compare to the Tam-Tams here on Mount Royal. Love ’em or hate ’em, I don’t think they’re in danger of going away any time soon.<\/p>\n

4<\/span>Cops: angry bicyclists gang up on the wrong guy<\/a>. A rather harrowing tale of a \u2014 stay with me here \u2014 cycling activist who, from his car, scolded a cyclist for running a red light. The cyclist then attacked the activist’s car and the activist himself with his bicycle<\/em>. The cyclist was found to be drunk and was charged by police on several counts.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

You know, I didn’t appreciate the two rolling critiques I’ve received from fellow cyclists, and I think I would appreciate it even less from someone driving alongside me in his car. But this guy must’ve had a real bad day<\/em> to actually use his bike as a weapon. Holy.<\/p>\n

An interesting case \u2014 the dancer, Monserrat Morilles, who l’Agence France-Presse inexplicably labels “superb”, performed in the metro to test the boundaries of Chilean freedom of expression, and said no one has ever complained.<\/p>\n

4<\/span>Finally, I leave you with this important lesson for us all, courtesy the York Region police, near Toronto: Don’t drink and mow<\/a>!<\/p>\n
