We hope it will fuel constructive dialogue on the urban issues faced by both cities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/wire\/2008\/07\/17\/breaking-news-ttc-suspends-streetcar-prucahses\/\">TTC suspends streetcar purchases<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Toronto\u2019s bright red streetcars are a unique and wonderful part of the city\u2019s character. The current vehicles, however, no longer live up to the Toronto&#8217;s transportation needs. Last month, TTC Chair Adam Giambrone announced plans for 120 kilometers of new light rail tracks and the addition of new and accessible streetcars. Matthew Blackett shares an email from the TTC announcing their rejection of TRAM Power Ltd and Bombardier Transportation submissions for the project. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/wire\/2008\/07\/16\/toronto-from-a-san-franciscans-perspective\/\">Toronto from a San Franciscan\u2019s perspective<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This past May, the San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Association chose Toronto as the focus of their annual urban study trip. Spacing Toronto shares some of SPUR member Lawrence Li\u2019s observations of various elements of the city. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/wire\/2008\/07\/17\/highway-lessons-from-shanghai\/\">Highway lessons from Shanghai?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the announcement of city council&#8217;s plan to take down the eastern section of the Gardiner Expressway, Torontonians are presented with the chance to imagine a transportation route that facilitates more than traffic rushing from point A to point B.
