Now, with the launch of its second issue, featuring a cover illustration by <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/?p=131\">Jack Dylan<\/a>, I&#8217;m even more intrigued. <\/p>\n<p>Based in Vancouver, but loaded with contributions from Toronto and Montreal, Savfaire has turned its attention to the neighbourhoods of those three cities, travelling all the way from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/feature\/02-park-ex-never-leave\">Park Ex<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/feature\/02-citizen-main\">Mount Pleasant<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/feature\/02-ndg-miss-you\">NDG<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/feature\/02-rexdale-myths\">Rexdale<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/feature\/02-gastown-cheaper-show-invades\">Gastown<\/a>, among others. Even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/feature\/02-beaconsfield-secret-suburbs\">Beaconsfield<\/a> gets a nod with some reflections on the shadier side of suburban life.<\/p>\n<p>A couple other highlights include a article on Vancouver Specials, an ugly but highly-adaptable kind of housing, built mainly in the 1960s and 70s, that is Vancouver&#8217;s answer to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanphoto.net\/blog\/2007\/05\/03\/they-work-on-so-many-levels\/\">our<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanphoto.net\/blog\/2006\/12\/21\/getting-to-know-the-plex\/\">plexes<\/a>; and an amusing guide to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/feature\/02-pigeon-defense\">defending yourself from pigeons<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.savfaire.com\/issue\/02\">read all of the articles online<\/a> &#8212; there&#8217;s also a Flash version of the print edition. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not too long ago I picked up a copy of an interesting little zine, Savfaire, from the counter of a Mile End boutique.
