That person might want to avoid General 54 on Thursday when Mile End nogoodniks Mark Slutsky and Dan Buller f\u00eate their love of the neighbourhood. &#8220;Looking Around,&#8221; their series of Mile End photos and paintings, will run until November 24th, but don&#8217;t miss the vernissage, which will feature DJs, drinks and good hipster company. <\/p>\n<p>More info from <a href=\"http:\/\/general54.blogspot.com\/2007\/10\/dan-buller-and-mark-slutsky-document.html\">General 54&#8217;s blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Here&#8217;s the deal: Looking Around is a semi-sequel to this spring&#8217;s Looking Up, Dan Buller&#8217;s previous show at General 54, which was the gallery\/boutique&#8217;s fastest-selling art show to date (all paintings sold out within 2 hours). This time, Buller is collaborating with Mark Slutsky in a show of works of and inspired by their neighbourhood of Mile-End and its environs.<\/p>\n<p>For most of his career Buller&#8217;s been known primarily as a \u201cfigure guy&#8230; faces, people, portraits\u201d. Instead, this is a series of painted \u201cpeople-free\u201d illustrations of his neighbourhood in Mile-End. He says these are \u201cstudies\u201d on the visual equivalent to \u201cbackground noise\u201d: telephone poles with bits of buildings poking out; everyday scenes that convey a kind of \u201csimplicity\u201d or emotion when framed or singled out. Slutsky&#8217;s pictures are taken with a digital SLR and manipulated digitally, combining multiple different exposures of the same scene to create a super-detailed &#8220;high dynamic range&#8221; effect.<\/p>\n<p>Works go on sale as of the vernissage, taking place on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 7pm and on into the night.
