But he company that manages these ads is knocking on borough doors across the island, <a href=\"http:\/\/argent.canoe.com\/lca\/infos\/quebec\/archives\/2008\/10\/20081005-225132.html\">trying to convince them<\/a> to follow suite. Vancouver allows construction sites to be &#8220;camouflaged&#8221; &#8211; covered in canvases that mimic the building&#8217;s original architecture.<\/p>\n<p>In an article headlined &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/wp-admin\/post.php?action=edit&amp;post=1570\"><em>payant pour la ville<\/em><\/a>&#8221; the <em>Journal de Montr\u00e9al <\/em>uncovered that the borough will make about $200,000 from ad revenues this year. Personally, I consider this amount scandalously <em>low<\/em> given the impact that ads of this scale have on the character of our downtown neighbourhoods.\u00a0 Further revenues are collected by building owners and can be used to help offset the cost of renovations.<\/p>\n<p>A citizens group called Reclaiming the Main is calling for the removal of the mega ad from a building on historic St-Laurent street.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sept 28th &#8211; Workers replace the gigantic ad on the corner of St-Laurent and Ste-Catherine.
