The shell of a train station is finally taking shape underneath Trudeau Airport — but, unless the federal and provincial governments cough up a hefty chunk of cash, there won’t be any trains to serve it. La Presse reports today<\/a> that A\u00e9roports de Montr\u00e9al, the private, non-profit corporation that manages the airports in Dorval and Mirabel, has spent $25 million to build a new airport train station without any guarantee of an airport rail link. It’s basically a massive bargaining chip, one that ADM hopes will persuade Ottawa and Quebec City to finally implement the high-speed airport train they’ve been talking about for years.<\/p>\n

Le nouvel immeuble a\u00e9roportuaire, o\u00f9 sera log\u00e9 le hall des d\u00e9parts vers les \u00c9tats-Unis, a co\u00fbt\u00e9 300 millions \u00e0 A\u00e9roports de Montr\u00e9al, un OSBL priv\u00e9. De cette somme, 25 millions ont servi \u00e0 construire la gare, a appris La Presse.<\/p>\n

Henri-Paul Martel, vice-pr\u00e9sident ing\u00e9nierie et construction d’ADM, assure que cet investissement n’est \u00abpas du tout\u00bb risqu\u00e9. \u00abPour nous, la navette est essentielle au d\u00e9veloppement de l’a\u00e9roport\u00bb, a-t-il dit. ADM a bon espoir qu’Ottawa d\u00e9frayera une partie des co\u00fbts. \u00abTransports Canada s’est engag\u00e9 \u00e0 financer la construction des navettes des a\u00e9roports de Vancouver et de Toronto\u00bb, a rappel\u00e9 Christiane Beaulieu, vice-pr\u00e9sidente aux affaires publiques.<\/p>\n

M. Martel a ajout\u00e9 que \u00abl’espace r\u00e9serv\u00e9 pour la gare n’est pas perdu\u00bb. D’ici l’ach\u00e8vement du lien ferroviaire, 125 voitures pourront s’y stationner. \u00abEt \u00e0 la limite, si jamais le projet de la navette ne voit pas le jour, nos plans permettent d’ajouter un autre \u00e9tage au stationnement\u00bb, a-t-il pr\u00e9cis\u00e9.<\/p>\n

L’administration du maire G\u00e9rald Tremblay ne cache pas son impatience de voir se r\u00e9aliser le projet. \u00ab\u00c7a fait des ann\u00e9es, voire des d\u00e9cennies, qu’on fait des \u00e9tudes sur la navette, a soulign\u00e9 le responsable du transport collectif au comit\u00e9 ex\u00e9cutif, Andr\u00e9 Lavall\u00e9e. Il faut arr\u00eater de multiplier les projets et de n’en r\u00e9aliser aucun.\u00bb<\/p>\n

M. Lavall\u00e9e esp\u00e8re que Qu\u00e9bec et Ottawa s’engageront \u00e0 investir dans le projet d’ici la fin de l’ann\u00e9e.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
