Este Cultural Centre<\/a> (formerly <\/span>Negro Community Centre) was founded in 1928 and housed on the corner of Coursol Street and Canning between 1955 and 1989. The centre was abandoned after a wall collapsed in 1987 and the cost of restoring the building outpaced the community&#8217;s fundraising capacity.\u00a0 In 2007, they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hour.ca\/news\/news.aspx?iIDArticle=12732\">received a municipal grant<\/a> to renovate and re-open the centre in this location, but no clear signs of renewed life yet.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/alanahmontreal\/3363662793\/\" title=\"Iverley community centre by alanah.montreal, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3540\/3363662793_0e031c9eee.jpg\" alt=\"Iverley community centre\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>West side of the building, which dates to around the 1890s and was formerly known as the Iverley Community Centre.<\/p>\n<p><em>Photo taken March 17th 2009 <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NCC\/Charles H.
