It took a few minutes to put two and two together and recognize the site of the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2009\/01\/19\/upcoming-consultation-for-place-lacadie-redevelopment\/\">Place L&#8217;Acadie redevelopment<\/a> that I wrote about back in January. (I apologize for the lousy photo quality &#8211; I was snapping from a bus window.)<\/p>\n<p>It looks like the project to replace some of the city&#8217;s worst slums with Le Corbusier-style apartment towers has recently reached the &#8220;razing&#8221; phase. (Upon closer examination, I learned that the public consultation process suggested a few improvements but concluded that the project should go through ASAP so that tenants who had been relocated out of unsanitary living conditions could return to the neighbourhood (<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.ville.montreal.qc.ca\/ocpm\/pdf\/P32\/Rapport.pdf\">PDF<\/a>).)<\/p>\n<p><em>Photo taken June 17th, 2009.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I rarely venture into the northern part of the island, and on a trip along Boul Henri Bourassa last week I was surprised to find an entire city block reduced to rubble.
