But this isn&#8217;t news at all because the pilot study in Ottawa-Gatineau was launched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawacitizen.com\/bicycle+built+sharing\/1675718\/story.html\">over a month ago<\/a>, some time in early June.<\/p>\n<p>I was in Gatineau last weekend and took the opportunity to do a run across town documenting each of the four bixi locations. 50 bikes are deployed in downtown Gatineau (Vieux-Hull and Civilizations Museum) and Ottawa (National War Memorial and ByWard Market at York &#038; Dalhousie). By contrast, the Bixi Montreal <a href=\"http:\/\/montreal.bixi.com\/the-stations\">website<\/a> states that no less than 300 stations and 3000 bikes were planned for.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/smurfmatic\/3766489287\/\" title=\"Station Monument comm\u00e9moratif de guerre du Canada - Bixi Ottawa-Gatineau by Cedric Sam, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3482\/3766489287_e5e41d1243.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"Station Monument comm\u00e9moratif de guerre du Canada - Bixi Ottawa-Gatineau\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If the Ottawa-Gatineau Bixi project goes ahead, a pass bought in any of the Bixi-served cities would serve in the other, a Bixi employee told me at one of the stations. Currently, this isn&#8217;t the case, because the 6,000-odd Bixi subscribers in Montr\u00e9al would probably be flooding the nascent Ottawa-Gatineau system.<\/p>\n<p>If you happen to be in Ottawa-Gatineau this summer, here is a suggested run from the <a href=\"http:\/\/ottawa-gatineau.bixi.com\/news\/full\/five-ideas-for-bixi\/\">Bixi website<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>1. Head for downtown Ottawa for a free \u201cNoon on the Bridge\u201d concert.<\/p>\n<p>2. Take a break at lunchtime, and get a breath of fresh air, by pedalling along the Rideau Canal or the Ottawa River.<\/p>\n<p>3. After a spectacular show at the National Arts Centre, go out for a bite and a drink in the ByWard Market.<\/p>\n<p>4. Ride across the bridge for a get-together with friends in Vieux Hull.<\/p>\n<p>5.
