(courtesy of the Meteorological Service of Canada)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This week at the UN headquarters in New York, the highest level climate change negotiations are under way, but are in risk of being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/09\/20\/science\/earth\/20nations.html?_r=1&amp;hp\">stalled<\/a>, according to the NY Times. I mention this because 1. it&#8217;s big news for every city around the world; and 2. there are events planned in Montreal to encourage Canadian negotiators to conclude a binding agreement. In fact, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avaaz.org\/en\/tcktcktck_map\/\">Global Climate Wake-Up<\/a> planned by avaaz.org is 2300 events in 130 countries.<\/p>\n<p>One event that will be of interest to many Spacing readers is the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flash_mob\">flash mob<\/a> planned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/event.php?eid=138747745355&amp;ref=nf#\/event.php?eid=133491953045&amp;index=1\">in the shadow of the Turcot Interchange<\/a> organized by the group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=134642930749\">Turcot FLASH<\/a>.  The event calls for the MTQ to reduce the car capacity of the Turcot in a step in decreasing the greenhouse gases associated with transportation, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ec.gc.ca\/pdb\/GHG\/inventory_report\/2006\/som-sum_eng.cfm\">only sector in Canada in which the amount of CO2 is actually increasing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place at 5:15 PM on Monday Sept 21 at <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/paery2\">St. Jacques and Prudhomme, near Vendome Metro<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looking forward to winter smog?
