{"id":6879,"date":"2010-04-29T12:43:24","date_gmt":"2010-04-29T17:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingmontreal.ca\/?p=6879"},"modified":"2013-01-21T11:48:17","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T16:48:17","slug":"preview-janes-walks-may-1st-2nd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2010\/04\/29\/preview-janes-walks-may-1st-2nd\/","title":{"rendered":"Preview: Jane&#8217;s walks May 1st &#038; 2nd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jane&#8217;s Walks, which commemorate seminal urban sociologist, Jane Jacobs, invite people to explore and share the places they care about as well as things  that may make them uncomfortable, places they feel are unsafe, and  places with room for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Jane\u2019s walks are not your typical tour, and participants are expected to   do more than hang back while the experts talk. Led by citizens or  community groups, the tours offer a more intimate, sometimes critical  perspective of the urban landscape. The goal is to enrich the  experience by opening a dialogue among all the participants.<\/p>\n<p>This year, I noted that a few of the walks in Montreal invite citizens to evaluate alleyways, parks, and creative ways to reappropriate public space:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mile End: Citizen Initiatives and alternative lifestyles (Bilingue)<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sunday, May 2nd at 14h, at St Viateur Bagels (St-Viateur near Parc).<\/p>\n<p><em>How are regular citizens transforming and re-signifying their urban surroundings? Are these re-appropiations of space always accord to city bylaws and regulations?\u00a0 What is happening behind the alleys and inside the old-warehouses\u00a0of this neighborhood? Come, walk, jump, chat&#8230;and discover with new eyes the Mile End!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>La rue est-elle adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 la famille dans le secteur De Lorimier? (Fran\u00e7ais)<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dimanche 2 mai \u00e0 10h, Parc De Lorimier coin Chabot et Laurier dans le Plateau. Bienvenue aux poussettes et aux enfants.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cette promenade dans le secteur De Lorimier du Plateau a pour objectif d\u2019\u00e9valuer la \u00abmarchabilit\u00e9\u00bb de notre quartier o\u00f9 habitent de nombreuses familles. Nous discuterons des enjeux li\u00e9s \u00e0 la circulation et de pistes d\u2019am\u00e9lioration de notre qualit\u00e9 de vie.
