The variation is much more eco-friendly, however, cutting urban air pollution by up to 45%.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all about a chemical sprayed on the typical cement &#8211; titanium oxide &#8211; that neutralizes air pollutants, as explained in the researchers&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/23731840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">abstract<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Are smog-eating sidewalks part of Canadian cities&#8217; response to degrading environmental standards?<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch are also developing <a href=\"http:\/\/inhabitat.com\/dutch-scientists-create-concrete-that-heals-itself-with-built-in-bacteria\/\">concrete that heals itself with built-in bacteria<\/a>.
