What if they could even point us in the right direction?<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn-based design agency, <a href=\"http:\/\/breakfastny.com\">BREAKFAST<\/a>, has somehow figured it out. In the past three years, they have been busy developing this urban &#8220;wayfinding&#8221; sign; an urban intervention that has finally caught up with us technologically.<\/p>\n<p>So Breakfast created\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/breakfastny.com\/points\/\">Points<\/a>;\u00a0a new, smart, rotating, digital sign that adjusts itself according to what you\u2019re looking for, what\u2019s happening around you, and the time of day. This is done by\u00a0compiling geo-tagged data via RSS, twitter, foursquare, local businesses\/events.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mEvc0RjghbY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We started BREAKFAST with the intention of creating entirely new products that harness the power of the web, and in turn, change how people interact with it in the real world.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/breakfastny.com\/points\/\" target=\"_self\">Points<\/a>\u00a0is the culmination of that idea.&#8221; &#8211; BREAKFAST<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Naturally, city streets and public spaces are ideal for these smart signs as they can\u00a0orientate pedestrians and notify us of emergencies, weather conditions and nearby events. They can also be used to navigate transit with access to nearest bus routes, subways, and bike-share stations.<\/p>\n<p>While a city is the instinctive setting, the technology is adaptable to conference settings, sporting events, and music festivals, to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>Are Canadians ready for Points to guide us through the city?<\/p>\n<p><em>Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcocreate.com\/1683139\/points-is-a-smart-robotic-street-sign-that-takes-you-where-you-want-to-go#1\">FastCoCreate<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/breakfastny.com\/points\/\">Breakfast\/Points<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><i>Urban Planet is a roundup of blogs from around the world dealing specifically with urban environments.
