Also, there&#8217;s some disscussion on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westsideaction.com\/making-pathways-relevant-real-life\/\">the subject of street signage<\/a> and how it might be designed to respect the pedestrian and the bicyclist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kathryn Hunt<\/strong> comments on a street phenomenon <a href=\"http:\/\/theincidentalcyclist.blogspot.ca\/2014\/06\/observed-but-not-understood.html\">observed but not understood<\/a> last month in the course of her own bicycling travels across the city.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/urbsite.blogspot.ca\/2014\/07\/george-bemis-public-library-is-it.html\">Further on the Ottawa Public Library&#8217;s Main Branch Building<\/a>: <strong>Urbsite<\/strong> presents a history of the building, its Carnegie-financed predecessor structure, and its chief designer George Bemi , as well as a partial sampling of some of the other buildings that Bemi had a hand in designing across Ottawa over the decades. Some of them may or may not surprise you.<\/p>\n<p>For those interested in the history of Ottawa&#8217;s medical infrastructure, Urbsite has something for you as well: a profile on the now-demolished <a href=\"http:\/\/urbsite.blogspot.ca\/2014\/07\/the-smallpox-hospital-porters-island.html\">Porter&#8217;s Island Smallpox Hospital<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vanier Now!<\/strong> reports on <a href=\"http:\/\/vaniernow.blogspot.ca\/2014\/06\/beechwood-gets-market.html\">the new Beechwood Market<\/a> for locovores in the neighbourhood and beyond, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/vaniernow.blogspot.ca\/2014\/06\/the-garden-variety.html\">a community garden project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sandy Hill Seen<\/strong> notes <a href=\"http:\/\/sandyhillseen.com\/2014\/07\/15\/eye-spy-local-micro-brewery-joins-wonderful-waller-st-businesses\/\">the creation of a new microbrewery on Waller Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ottawa Past and Present<\/strong> focuses on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pastottawa.com\/comparison\/courtyard-clarendon-lane\/453\/\">Clarendon Lane<\/a> in the ByWard Market. It wasn&#8217;t always as attractive a dining venue as it is today, and that took some work.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia Lay reports for the <strong>Centretown Buzz<\/strong> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centretownbuzz.com\/2014\/07\/18\/bikeway-coming-to-oconnor-street\/\">a new bike lane in the works for O&#8217;Connor Street<\/a>.
