{"id":12819,"date":"2015-01-30T08:00:33","date_gmt":"2015-01-30T13:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/ottawa\/?p=12819"},"modified":"2015-02-05T08:45:33","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T13:45:33","slug":"12819","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/ottawa\/2015\/01\/30\/12819\/","title":{"rendered":"OC Transpo gets graphic: The transitway map"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While sitting on a bus in Ottawa this past summer, I found myself doing a double take out the window &#8211; but not for any reason you may guess. In fact, I was not looking out the window so much as looking at it. For right there, in all its window-cling, transparent glory, clung a striking map of Ottawa and its transit way.<\/p>\n<p>Its simplicity\u00a0is reminiscent of Toronto&#8217;s subway maps, or those of London&#8217;s tube system &#8211; although not nearly as complex as the latter &#8211; and its bold, clean graphics give a visually efficient reading of the city in its totality.<\/p>\n<p>Gone is the clutter of the street grid,\u00a0and while not to scale or indicative of the expanse of the greenbelt, it gives a sense of the major points of connection in our city,\u00a0as well as the water ways which we often forget greatly influence our travel across the city.\u00a0There is even graphic\u00a0representation of\u00a0&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/ottawa\/2013\/10\/17\/rideau-island-island-ottawa\/\">Rideau Island<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>With maps and wayfinding symbols being a\u00a0hot topic in urban design, it is encouraging to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.octranspo1.com\/?from=splash\">OC Transpo<\/a> keeping pace in the lead up to what our LRT maps may look like someday down the transit way.<\/p>\n<p><em>Image: courtesey of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.octranspo1.com\/maps\">OC Transpo<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While sitting on a bus in Ottawa this past summer, I found myself doing a double take out the window &#8211; but not for any reason you may guess.
