While the area has preserved many of its century old buildings, a  variety of changes have still fundamentally changed the character of the  neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal Melville profiles the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/2011\/01\/06\/events-guide-tilted-landscapes\/\">Tilted Landscapes<\/a> art exhibition in Halifax featuring contemporary painting in a unique venue.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"More...\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"st\" src=\"..\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-toronto.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The latest instalment of the<em> No Mean City <\/em>series presented a fascinating look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/01\/05\/no-mean-city-designs-on-a-downtown-park\/\">exciting design proposals<\/a> for a new public square at John and King streets in the heart of the entertainment district.<\/p>\n<p>John Lorinc focused his weekly column this week on pondering the question of when Mayor Rob Ford will have to face the <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2011\/01\/04\/lorinc-when-will-reality-bite-ford\/\">fiscal reality<\/a> of the city.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"so\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-ottawa.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a western neighbourhood of Ottawa with a long standing bad reputation, Spacing documents the<a href=\"..\/2010\/12\/29\/revealed-a-crack-house-from-the-inside\/\"> human scale of urban renewal<\/a> taking place by following the transformation of one building from crack house to comfortable modern rental.<\/p>\n<p>Evan Thornton takes a stab at what he feels are the best and worst public spaces in Ottawa.
