While L.A.&#8217;s new plan targets bike lanes and bike parking improvements, local experts say it speaks to a cultural shift that will make roads more friendly for all users. Moving forward, cycling advocates will need to address funding issues and bureaucratic heel-dragging to ensure the plan is put into action. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.good.is\/post\/what-l-a-s-new-bike-plan-means-for-cyclists-and-the-city\">GOOD<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0New York has long been the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetfilms.org\/floating-parking-bike-buffer-zones-in-separated-cycletracks\/#more-49583\">darling of bike infrastructure advocates<\/a>. But for all the praise lavished upon NYC&#8217;s bike infrastructure revolution, there is evidence that its well laid plans may be coming apart at the seams: a lawsuit over the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/03\/08\/nyregion\/08bike.html?_r=2&amp;nl=nyregion&amp;emc=ura1\">Prospect Park West bike lane<\/a> and\u00a0political in-fighting over\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/03\/06\/nyregion\/06sadik-khan.html?_r=1&amp;sq=janete%20sadik-khan&amp;st=cse&amp;scp=2&amp;pagewanted=all\">autocratic decision making<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Perhaps those making a fuss in New York ought to consider this infographic from the Intelligent Cities Project. By their calculation, if a city can reduce car ownership by 15,000 vehicles, an additional $127,275,000 could stay in the local economy. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.good.is\/post\/stimulate-your-local-economy-and-your-wallet-by-getting-rid-of-your-car\/\">Intelligent Cities Project<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"More...\" src=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wordpress\/img\/trans.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"webkit-fake-url:\/\/31E932D4-C01F-4A50-B69A-6A1820B8B18F\/trans.gif\" alt=\"trans.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/places.designobserver.com\/entry.html?entry=21139\">Design Observer<\/a> has a fascinating portrait of Jorge Otero-Pailos &#8211; whose art focuses on the medium most preservationists seek to get rid of: dust. While the discipline of historic preservation converges around the removal of filth, Otero-Pailos argues that dust is instrinsic to buildings and worthy of our attention.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 If you find yourself in Portland, OR, in search of public art, with an iPhone in hand, look no further. The city has recently released Public Art PDX, an app which will serve as a living chronicle of the murals, sculptures, photographs, fibre art, metalwork, ceramics, architectural integrations and drawings which adorn the city.
