Jacob&#8217;s compliments  Montreal for its lack of slum clearance while criticizing Toronto for  its political elite&#8217;s love affair with expensive mediocrity.<\/p>\n<p>Joel Thibert clarifies his position following a recent Op-Ed piece in <em>La Presse <\/em>regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/montreal\/2011\/08\/18\/the-regionalist-why-haphazard-urban-development-is-a-moral-failure\/\">haphazard development <\/a>in the Montreal periphery, including how this development comes to be and what it says about our collective responsibility.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"sa\" src=\"http:\/\/spacing.ca\/media\/identity\/sidebar-head-atlantic.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"44\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Saint John, New Brunswick the local airport authority has put up <a href=\"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/atlantic\/2011\/08\/18\/saint-john-airport-takes-on-plan-sj\/\">resistance <\/a>to the the new PlanSJ community based Municpal Plan.
