This Wednesday, 8-80 Cities in partnership with the John H. Daniels Faculty ofArchitecture, Landscape, and Design is hosting a free public lecture entitled Designing Cities for Health and Happiness. The talk will feature a keynote presentation by Helle Søholt, founding partner of the legendary Gehl Architects, a firm perhaps best know around these parts for its role in transforming Times Square and other key intersections throughout New York City. Søholt’s talk will explore successful international projects that have transformed public space to prioritize health, quality of life, and inclusive environments.

The keynote lecture will be followed by short presentations and a panel discussion featuring local urban thinkers in the fields of architecture, public health and urban affairs. Panelists include our very own Shawn Micallef (Spacing, Toronto Star), Ward 27 City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, Associate Professor Robert Wright (Director of the Master of Landscape Architecture program at the University of Toronto’s Daniels Faculty), and Monica Campbell (Director of Healthy Public Policy for Toronto Public Health).
