As was posted<\/a> earlier in Spacing, Queen’s Quay west from Spadina to York will be partially closed to car traffic from August 11 – 20th as part of the Quay to the City: Summer 2006<\/a> event, and as a sign of good things to come for the waterfront.
\n<\/p>\n

Car traffic will be replaced with bike lanes, as well as a kilometre-long stretch of 12,000 red geraniums and a picnic lawn the length of almost ten football fields.<\/p>\n

Two four-storey sculptures built with more than 600 bicycles will highlight the temporary new section of the popular Waterfront Trail.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, August 12th at 9 am cyclists are invited to come down to the waterfront to help officially open this extension of the Waterfront Trail.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everyone should meet at the bike arch at York and Queen’s Quay. They will have a ribbon across the arch and would like to have all of the cyclists ride through it.<\/p>\n

This temporary extension of the Waterfront Trail along Queen’s Quay is currently a significant gap in the Trail for cyclists.<\/p>\n

After that, why not ride over to Alexandra Park<\/a> (Bathurst & Dundas) where you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about cargo bikes and bike trailers from 12 to 4pm.<\/p>\n

There are workshops on:<\/p>\n

1pm – Building your own bucket panniers
\n2pm – Starting a bicycle based business
\n3pm – Building your own bike trailer<\/p>\n
