{"id":1240,"date":"2006-10-13T00:00:29","date_gmt":"2006-10-13T04:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingtoronto.ca\/?p=1240"},"modified":"2013-01-21T13:49:00","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T18:49:00","slug":"pledge-to-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2006\/10\/13\/pledge-to-green\/","title":{"rendered":"Pledge TO Green"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"475\" height=\"316\" src=\"http:\/\/aidanfotos.com\/images\/homephoto.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, October 14 in Toronto&#8217;s City Hall council chamber it will focus on the Environment and the upcoming municipal election. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.relocalize.net\/groups\/toronto\">Post Carbon Toronto<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pledgetogreen.ca\/aboutusetcag.html?id=1696\">East Toronto Climate Action Group<\/a> are holding a non-partisan political event in the hopes of leveraging the election in order to bring a reinvigorated focus to Toronto&#8217;s official <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/council\/environtf_index.htm\">Environmental Plan<\/a> (officially adopted and subsequently orphaned.)<\/p>\n<p>They are asking every candidate to Pledge TO Green. <a href=\"http:\/\/Pledgetogreen.ca\">Pledgetogreen.ca<\/a> will keep track of all of the candidates that have pledged to green.<\/p>\n<p>The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and presentations start at noon sharp. A full is expected so arrive early in order to ensure yourself a seat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The speakers will be:<\/strong><br \/>\n&bull; Peter Tabuns former exec direc of Greenpeace, city councillor and today Ontario MPP.<br \/>\n&bull;  Elizabeth May: Author, Sierra Club, Order of Canada, leader of Green Party Canada<br \/>\n&bull;  Franz Hartmann: at the center of the creation of Toronto&#8217;s EP &#038; U of T prof.<br \/>\n&bull; Greg Allen: &#8220;the Amory Lovins of the North&#8221;, co-authored energy part of Toronto&#8217;s EP<br \/>\n&bull; Richard Gilbert: Author, city councillor for 15 years, sustainable transportation expert, author of a city of Hamilton plan.<br \/>\n&bull;  Keith Stewart: Author, WWF, Toronto Environmental Alliance, LIEN, and PhD in the environment and comedy.<br \/>\n&bull; Debbie Fields: Exec Direc Food Share<br \/>\n&bull;  Kevin Mercer: Founder of Riversides and water issues advocate.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>NOTE: Spacing will be there selling magazines <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>photo by <a href=\"http:\/\/aidanfotos.com\">Bouke Salverda<\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, October 14 in Toronto&#8217;s City Hall council chamber it will focus on the Environment and the upcoming municipal election.
