A week ago, the Toronto Coalition for Active Transportation<\/a> (TCAT) (note – I’m one of the organizers<\/em>) held a press conference to highlight the importance of cycling and walking issues in the civic election, and bring attention to its candidate surveys (mayoral, councillor and trustee).<\/p>\n

There were three great speakers: Glen Murray, former mayor of Winnipeg and now Chair of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, Dr. Alan Abelsohn of the Ontario College of Family Physicians, and Gil Pe\u00e0\u00b1alosa, former commissioner of Parks, Sports and Recreation of Bogota, Colombia, where he spearheaded a massive increase in bicycle use, and now president of Walk and Bike for Life<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They each spoke inspiringly for about seven minutes about the importance of cycling and walking, and each of their talks is now posted on YouTube<\/a>. The press conference is also described in blogs by Sally MacKay<\/a> and Jake Allderdice<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
