{"id":1660,"date":"2007-03-19T19:10:50","date_gmt":"2007-03-19T23:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spacingtoronto.ca\/?p=1660"},"modified":"2007-03-19T23:58:14","modified_gmt":"2007-03-20T03:58:14","slug":"edmonton-psychogeography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spacing.ca\/toronto\/2007\/03\/19\/edmonton-psychogeography\/","title":{"rendered":"Edmonton psychogeography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" src=\"http:\/\/media.canada.com\/idl\/edjn\/20070317\/70927-21823.jpg?size=l\" \/>A few weeks ago I talked to Edmonton Journal writer Laurence Miall, as he was planning to take a psychogeographic walk through that city and was interested in what <a href=\"http:\/\/psychogeography.ca\">we<\/a> do here in Toronto. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/edmontonjournal\/news\/ed\/story.html?id=96cc10e4-1c95-427f-8991-fec4aa01adc0\">His article<\/a> came out on the weekend &#8212; it&#8217;s interesting to read Edmonton described from a psychogeographic perspective.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Is walking from Old Strathcona to South Edmonton Common an adventure, an ordeal, or just plain stupid? It is Sunday, around noon, and for reasons that are not currently clear even to myself, I have given up the comfort of my bed in order to lace up my shoes, zip up my coat, load my backpack with a few nourishing goodies, and walk the approximately 13 kilometres to South Edmonton Common &#8212; my first foray into the world of psychogeography.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Gateway Boulevard sprawls ahead of me, dead straight, for several kilometres. There is a slow-moving sea of traffic that seemingly has no end. If I were driving like everyone else, I would not have noticed this.
