In the fall of 2006, Spacing launched a special blog called Spacing Votes<\/a> to cover the municipal election. We found the experience to be an exciting way for our writers to report on Toronto public space issues that are exceptionally important to our city’s future.<\/p>\n

Spacing plans to re-launch Spacing Votes in August 2007 to cover the upcoming provincial election. The magazine needs a new team of enthusiastic writers who want to dive into the world of electoral politics.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spacing Votes offers students an intensive internship from late-August until mid-October <\/a>(the election date is October 10th) that will focus on the 22 Toronto ridings, plus specific GTA-wide issues. This is a perfect fit for students who are considering a career covering politics\/policy and are in need of an internship credit.<\/p>\n

Spacing is looking for students with an interest in local issues and public space causes (eg: transit, traffic, infrastructure, development\/housing, environment, and municipal affairs). The internship is tailored to journalism students, but Spacing will consider any applicant who demonstrates strong writing\/reporting skills, and an ability to be self-motivated, creative, and work independently.<\/p>\n

Spacing wants students who can commit to a minimum of two\/three days a week (full-time would be ideal). Time-commitments are flexible, but the more a candidate can commit to a full-time internship, the better off both parties will be. The internship does not offer monetary compensation.<\/p>\n

\nSpacing will conduct interviews before the deadline for applicants who are going to be out of town in May. The earlier you submit your application, the earlier you’ll get an interview.<\/p>\n
