We&#8217;ve co-hosted the event with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.era.on.ca\/index1_content.html\">ERA Architects<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/murmurtoronto.ca\/\">Murmur<\/a> since the festival&#8217;s inception, and we&#8217;ve added two more partners in <a href=\"http:\/\/wirelesstoronto.ca\/\">Wireless Toronto<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.torontosocietyofarchitects.ca\/\">Toronto Society of Architects<\/a>. TSA has recently invited submissions for a logo design for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diac.on.ca\/\">Design Matters<\/a> campaign. The deadline is Monday May 7th, and the top three designs will walk away with some cash. The winner will be announced at the Toronto the Good party.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) in association with the Design Industry Advisory Committee (DIAC) invites submissions in a design competition to celebrate \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcdesign matters&#8217; throughout 2007.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Competition Sponsors<\/strong><br \/>\nCity of Toronto, Festival of Architecture and Design (fAd)<br \/>\nAstley-Gilbert<br \/>\nToronto the Good<br \/>\nSpacing Magazine<\/p>\n<p><strong>Design Concept<\/strong><br \/>\nThe purpose is to generate an image that celebrates architecture and design in Toronto, by engaging any, and all of, the design disciplines, including: architects, graphic designers, landscape architects, fashion designers, interior designers, industrial designers, artists,\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n<p>The backdrop to the competition is the TSA&#8217;s 120th Anniversary, and our ongoing collaboration with DIAC and the other professional design associations. We are in the mood to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>While the submission is in the format of a poster, the design concept should be adaptable to a variety of media: T-shirts, bags, buttons, a website, anything. We will work with the winning designer to adapt the design to different uses, as opportunities emerge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission Criteria<\/strong><br \/>\nEverybody is welcome to submit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Awards and Recognition<\/strong><br \/>\n&bull;     Announcements and exhibition of winners will be made at the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcToronto the Good&#8217; party at the Distillery District, 15 May, 2007.<br \/>\n&bull;     A cash prize will be awarded to winners selected by the jury: 1st prize &#8211; $1,000; 2nd prize &#8211; $600; 3rd prize &#8211; $400.<br \/>\n&bull;     Spacing Magazine will feature the competition outcomes in their magazine and website.<br \/>\n&bull;     Selected entries will also be exhibited at IIDEX\/NEOCON CANADA 2007.<br \/>\n&bull;     Competition organizers will also continue to identify other exhibit venues.<br \/>\n&bull;     Selected entries may be exhibited on-line by the participating design societies.<br \/>\n&bull;     A certificate will be awarded for each entry selected as a finalist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration &#8212; deadline Monday, 7 May<\/strong><br \/>\n&bull;     Registration form must be received no later than 7 May, 2007, 5pm.<br \/>\n&bull;     Each entry must be registered by sending a competed entry form by mail or e-mail to:<br \/>\nToronto Society of Architects c\/o Design Exchange<br \/>\n234 Bay Street, P.O. Box 18<br \/>\nToronto Dominion Centre<br \/>\nToronto, ON  M5K 1B2<br \/>\ntsa@torontosocietyofarchitects.ca<\/p>\n<p>Upon receipt, a confidential entry number will be issued by email to each registrant as confirmation, to ensure anonymity for judging. This number should be included as the title of the electronic file of the design entry. Only one submission will be accepted per registration. But, any person may register and submit several (no limit) entries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Questions  &#8212; deadline Monday, 7 May<\/strong><br \/>\nQuestions will be received by the TSA before Monday, 7 May, 2007 at tsa@torontosocietyofarchitects.com and answers will be distributed to all registrants by email.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\n&bull;     A1 size (594 x 841 mm \/ 23.4 x 33.1 in).<br \/>\n&bull;     The words \u00e2\u20ac\u0153design matters\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<br \/>\n&bull;     Uploaded electronically to the Astley-Gilbert FTP site (instructions available with registration).<br \/>\n&bull;     Name of designer(s), or any other identification, must not be visible. Submissions must be anonymous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission Deadline &#8212; Thursday, 10 May<\/strong><br \/>\n&bull;     Thursday, 10 May, 2007 &#8211; entries must be received electronically, no later than 12 pm (noon). Submissions received after this deadline will not be considered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judging<\/strong><br \/>\nJudging is scheduled for Friday, 11 May, 2007. The list of jurors will be confirmed and provided to registrants, when available. The jury may include representatives of:<br \/>\n&bull;     Toronto Society of Architects (TSA)<br \/>\n&bull;     Design Industry Advisory Committee (DIAC)<br \/>\n&bull;     Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario (ACIDO)<br \/>\n&bull;     Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD)<br \/>\n&bull;     Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO)<br \/>\n&bull;     Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC)<br \/>\n&bull;     Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA)<br \/>\n&bull;     Society of Design Administrators (SDA)<br \/>\n&bull;     Universities and Colleges with design programs<\/p>\n<p>Submissions received that meet the requirements of the competition will be printed in colour on A3 paper by Astley-Gilbert and reviewed anonymously by the jury. Selected entries will be printed in A1 format for exhibition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judging Criteria<\/strong><br \/>\nThe selection will be based on:<br \/>\n&bull;     The design meets the competition requirements.<br \/>\n&bull;     The design demonstrates originality and creativity in describing, representing, or suggesting the celebration of \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcdesign matters&#8217; in relation to architecture and to Toronto.<br \/>\n&bull;     The design demonstrates \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcgood design&#8217; through its concept and the actual design, layout, and expressiveness.<br \/>\n&bull;     The design is adaptable in whole or part to other media applications and formats, such as T-shirts, bags, buttons, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright<\/strong><br \/>\nEntries must be original.
