For more on yesterday&#8217;s meeting, check out your favourite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/News\/article\/209067\">local<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/servlet\/story\/LAC.20070501.COUNCIL01\/TPStory\/TPNational\/Ontario\/\">paper <\/a>or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canada\/toronto\/story\/2007\/04\/30\/street-furniture-opposition.html\">website.<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, here&#8217;s a little list I put together based on numbers reported in these articles plus a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eye.net\/eye\/issue\/issue_03.29.07\/city\/news.php\">couple<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/article\/172330\">others:<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>STREET FURNITURE BY THE NUMBERS<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<p align=\"left\">Number of years the contract will last: <strong>20<\/strong><br \/>\nValue of the new street furniture: <strong>$202, 000,000<\/strong><br \/>\nCost Astral will pay to maintain it: <strong>$294,000,000<\/strong><br \/>\nCost of the street furniture if the City of Toronto paid for the infrastructure itself: <strong>Unknown<\/strong><br \/>\nTotal amount of ad revenue Astral is expected hand over to the city over the next 20 years: <strong>$429,000,000<\/strong><br \/>\nTotal benefits to the city: <strong>$900,000,000<\/strong><br \/>\nPercentage of ads that will disappear from city streets: <strong>14%<\/strong><br \/>\nThe increase in square footage of advertising space that will appear on city streets: <strong>11%<\/strong><br \/>\nNumber of thumbs up Mayor David Miller gave the deal: <strong>2<\/strong><br \/>\nDate city council is scheduled to debate the contract: <strong>May 23<\/strong><br \/>\nNumber of complaints of illegal billboards and signs that city staff are investigating: <strong>175<\/strong><br \/>\nNumber of those billboards that belong to Astral: <strong>23<\/strong><br \/>\nNumber of illegal billboards posted on illegalsigns.ca: <strong>over 350<\/strong><br \/>\nNumber of access requests Rami Tabello has submitted to the city: <strong>625<\/strong><br \/>\nNumber of requests that have been completed: <strong>338<\/strong><br \/>\nAmount of money the city was supposed to receive per year from Eucan, the company that owned and operated Toronto&#8217;s recycling bins after taking them over from OMG Media in 2005: <strong>$2,000,000<\/strong><br \/>\nAmount of money the city actually received per year: <strong>$500,000<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eyeweekly.com\/daily\/?p=280\"><strong>Click here to leave a comment.<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eyeweekly.com\/daily\/?p=280\"> <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cross-posted from Eye Daily.
