What is going on in Toronto’s east end? Now, Then East Toronto: A Discussion<\/strong> will provide an opportunity to take stock of public space and development issues, and the changes transforming the east end. Among the topics on the table include the gentrification of east Toronto communities, the development of Bridgepoint Health and ramifications for Riverdale Park and the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHalf Round’ building, among many others. What sort of impact have these and other changes had on the east end? More generally, what does it mean to live in east Toronto these days?<\/p>\n

On hand for the discussion at the Toronto Free Gallery will be Heather Mclean of Planning Action, Spacing associate editors Anna Bowness and Dale Duncan, Penina Coopersmith of Citizens for Riverdale Hospital, Ute Lehrer, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at York University and Todd Irvine of LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests).<\/p>\n

The night will also include the closing reception for ‘East Toronto Greats’, a collaborative project featuring the work of artist and curator Tim Whalley and writer Sheila Heti. The works, created by Tim and interpreted by Sheila, were shown across the city in window display galleries at the Drake Hotel, Pages Books Art Window and Toronto Free Gallery’s 24 Hour Gallery during the spring of 2007.
